Today, we learned population pyramid which can reveal a lot of information. If the population pyramid of a country really looks like a pyramid, that means the country has high-percent people who are young, just like lots of African countries. So population of those countries will grow fast and never decrease. Compare with those countries, Russia has lower-percent pre-reproduction people whose age is 0-14, higher-percent reproduction people and old age people. So the population pyramid of Russia looks more like a rectangular. That's the main difference between advanced country and developing country.
We can know birth rate, death rate and actual population of a country from pyramid. There are certain ways that can influence population pyramid, like industrialization, natural disaster and educated woman. Industrialization can provide people with good living condition, medical care and long expectancy. Educated woman results that woman will spend more energy on working instead of boring kids. That's why population pyramid of advanced country looks more like a rectangular.

Today, we focused on sharing interesting facts we found in CIA World Factbook. My classmates found a lot of interesting facts. Pitcairn Island is the country which has the fewest population in the world, which is 48. They don't have military. They were provided with protect by UK. Their main economic source is selling the stamps. Syria is the country which has the lowest net migration rate which is -113. That means 11.3% of total population are leaving. However, Lebanon has highest net migration rate which is 83. Actually, most the immigrants come from Syria. Mr. Schick also mentioned how bad the situation is in Africa. Top 10 countries which has most infants who can not survive longer than 1 year are African countries. Besides, lots of countries in Africa have problem on drinking. There are some countries in which most people don't have pure water to drink. They have to travel far away to get polluted water, which will cause so many deceases. That's why there are so many infants died before their first birthday. That's a very sad news. The interesting fact I found is that population of India is just 12 million fewer than China. But India has 19.89 birth rate which is 7 greater than China. And death rate for countries is almost same, which means India will soon become the first country that has greater population than China.

Today, we reviewed our test last Wednesday. My grade is not bad but I think I can do better. So I will study harder for higher grade. Today, we focused on two questions. One is about the death of Socrates, which told us he was so democratic that he refused to escape from Greek, instead he chose to die in Greek. The other question we focused on is about globalization. Cody said three international students in class are the symbols of globalization. He said back in 1940, there are no international students in America, but now they have lots of students who come from different countries bringing American culture back their countries. An example given by Mr. schick is that Mr.Miller took some students to Russian school as exchange students. So they can know about Russian culture and share it with people after they came back.

Today, I went to the freshman retreat with about 40 freshman, 5 junior leaders and Mr. Meyerl. The main purpose of the retreat is to meet a lot of new people and make friends. I did have fun today. I knew many new friends as along we played the group activities together. The most meaningful thing to me today is that at the end of the retreat, we all wrote a letter to ourselves in the future. One of the sentences I wrote is " Never think you are the best and never think you are not good enough to do something" I think that's the key to success for me. I really like today.

Today, we focused on measuring population.
Crude birth rate: number of births per 1000 of the population.
Crude death rate: number of deaths per 1000 of the population
Rate of natural increase (RNI)
- produced by subtracting the death rate from birth rate
- this gives us the annual natural growth rate- in percentage form-for a country or region.
An excess of persons entering the country is net immigration
An excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration
The difference between immigration and emigration during a year is net migration rate.
The net migration rate of US is 2.45 this year. The net migration of Mexico is -1.64 this year.
The most interesting fact I found in CIA is that Pitcairn Island has least population which is 48 people. That is even smaller than one Chinese class. People there make money by selling stamps.
Another interesting fact is that population of India is just 12 million fewer than China. But India has 19.89 birth rate which is 7 greater than China. And death rate for both countries is almost same, which means India will soon become the first country that has greater population than China.

Today, we talked about the population and settlement in the world. There are more than 7 billion people on the earth. That's too large to image what kind of sight is it when 7 billion people stay together. There are 73 million people born per year and 201,000 per day. That's really an amazing amount. I heard that the earth can stand 8 billion people at most. So these years, China contributed a lot for controlling the growth of population. In China, each family can only have one kid. And that makes the trend of growth in the world slow. Now, it will be cost 12 years to increase one billion people. We also talked about the life expectancy which means the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Depend on the area, different people in different areas have different life expectancy. But what the same is that woman has longer life expectancy than man. The reason for that is man always do the dangerous jobs which can not be done by woman.

Today, I took my first human geo task and another four task for different four classes. I'm so tired. I think the task today is not hard, but it is not easy, either. The task in American is very different from Chinese task. The task in American always makes me feel that I'm not sure, especially in short answer questions. Sometimes I am not sure with what to write in short answer questions. I need to improve. I always pay much attention in class, but if my English is good enough to understand every words that Mr. Schick said, I will do better in task.

Today, we studied for the test tomorrow through the whole class. Mr. shick was not in class today, so Mr. Merule was the submit teacher, who is also my religion teacher. All the students studied quietly. I also created a quilet account which is a study tool to help us study. I created a new set and type the words in, which can help me better memorize the ancient Greek words. I reviewed the message to Gorcia, Did you know, globalization and ancient Greece words. I believed I will get a high grade tomorrow.

Last class, we focused on the discussion about globalization. Globalization is the connection of different parts of the world. Globalization results in the expansion of international cultural, economic, and political activities. As internet develops, the world becomes smaller and smaller. There are less and less differences in the world. McDonald is a good example. McDonald now exists all over the world, no matter in Asian, Europe or America. Besides this, that if we want to taste food from another country, we even don't have to leave the city, is the most common example. In fact, globalization happens throughout the history. In China, I learned that in early 2000 years ago, a Chinese whose name is Qian Zhang developed the silk road between China and Europe which contributed a lot for the economy of both. They communicated culture and exchanged goods they produced in their country. That's a good beginning of globalization even if their goal is not to share culture, is to make money. From that, I think globalization is a result of development of internet. Because internet make communications convenient. Globalization happens continuously and silently. Same as globalization, we also have Americanization, just like we can see McDonald everywhere. I think that is like subspecies of globalization. Import and export are also influenced by globalization. The products of a company can be sent to all over the world. So in the classroom, we can see the same products which were made in different countries.
Globalization is amazing!
Globalization is amazing!

First, celebrate that I finally get my new computer for which I have waited for 2 weeks.
Today is a very important day for all Americans. Thirteen years ago a terrorist attack happened in New York, so many people died. That brought fear and chaotic to American people. I cherish those who died in that event. Then, we reviewed the video we watched yesterday. Again, it reminds me that the world we live in is changing rapidly. Many years ago, cell phones were so big that they are like brick. If someone mess up with you, you can use your big phone to crack his head. But the cell phones now almost can do anything except cracking head! Before i phone was created, who knows someday we will check email on the phone instead of computers. i watch is on coming now. I predict someday after i watch becomes popular in the world, watch will replace cell phones. Maybe in the future, if you want to contact with your new friend, you will ask: hey, what's your watch number? As Internet develops rapidly, the world become smaller and smaller. Mr.shick predicted in ten years, our cell phone will become a chip which is planted in our body. We will just pass the message by brains. That thought is crazy! But the world is a crazy world, isn't it?

In the class today, we watched a short video about amazing facts in the world today. The main idea of the video is that the world is changing rapidly everyday. "China will soon become the biggest country which has the most English speaker". That's not really strange for me, as Chinese. English is international language and Chinese kids start learning English when they are in primary school. The main reason for that is China has the biggest population in the world,1400000000 people in China. "25% of Indian population has highest IQ which is greater than total population of US" is the same thing. Because both China and India are the oldest country in the world. China has more than 5000 years history. "There are 845 million monthly active user of Facebook." Yes, internet is dominating the world and guiding so many technologies going foreword. The technology like Facebook provide people with convenient talk and message exchanging. For me, I use QQ, which is the same technology as Facebook, to talk with my parents in China. Nowadays, internet becomes most important and necessary thing besides sunshine, water and oxygen. And we have to admit that if Facebook can be popular in China and India, the users can be 100 times of the user now.

In the class, we reviewed the words we talk about last class. And then, we focused on the discussion about “ The unexamined life is not worth living”.We all showed our own opinions about that.Mr.schick showed that this sentence meant as a human, we should do something for the world, not just work, go home over and over again. That's not different from pigs' life. As a human,we have responsibility to try our best to make the world better.Do something crazy, do something unique, and make our life colorful. As for me, I think the life without challenge is not worth living. Challenge can make us know what is success and what is failure. It's a good way to recognize ourselves,to help us know who are we. No matter success or fail, because we have done,it's always worth.

about "a message to Garcia"
Today, in the class, we talked about a message to Garcia, which praises the good responsibility and persistence of Rowen.During the Cuban War, American president needed to contact with Garcia who was a general of military. But then, he was in a secret rain forest, so no one knew where he was. President gave this important mission to Rowen. Rowen didn't complained or asked where was he. He just took the letter from president and went away. After three weeks, Rowen crossed the dangerous ground and ultimately passed the letter to Garcia. The result of the War is not important. The point is that we can see the bright spot of Rowen as strong sense of responsibility to his work. In the real life,we can see so many people who are lazy with his or her job. From the story, I learned that the people who are not serious to his work or don't be responsible can do nothing.
